Sheriff Mack spoke last Sunday to a crowd of about one hundred who had gathered for the San Marcos Area Republicans for Texas Group (SMART Group) Meeting. Numerous elected officials were present, including County Judge Bert Cobb who led the group in an opening prayer, and 3rd Court of Appeals Justice Melissa Goodwin who led the Pledge of Allegiance.

During the evening Sheriff Mack recounted the day, several years ago, when he attended a meeting for county sheriffs. At the meeting three federal officials had ordered the sheriffs to realign their money and manpower to meet new federal requirements, or face arrest. Driving home from the meeting Mack realized that the new federal regulations were in direct conflict with his sworn duties as sheriff. He resolved that his only option was to sue the federal government.

Michael, a Mack-backing truck driver from the San Antonio area will be driving his rig as much as he can with a giant custom banner on a frame he built with the help of his wife Kristi and their dog Maybelline.

It should be off on its maiden voyage sometime in the next few days so keep your eyes open on the highways. It’s going to be hard to miss.

Last week, I was the featured guest on Texas Talk with Harley, a popular show hosted by the well-know Kerrville, TX radio announcer, Harley Belew.

The two of us addressed all the big issues, including defending our state sovereignty, protecting the Second Amendment, and – of course – upholding the entire United States Constitution.

It was a great interview, and a lot of fun, too. Click on the screenshot below to watch an entertaining clip from the show.

Click the screenshot above to watch my interview on Texas Talk with Harley.

Support Sheriff Mack today: http://sheriffmackforcongress.com/donate

Harley and I had many great exchanges, but my favorite was when we got to talking about small business:

Harley: Sheriff Mack, what are you going to do for small business?

Mack: First and foremost, I will get the federal government out of your way.

Small businesses are the backbone of the American economy, and right now, what’s killing the U.S. economy is too much federal government.

It’s not up to the federal government to run my business. My land, and my home, and my business are my business, not the federal government’s.

If we get the federal government out of the way, get regulatory authorities and bureaucracies off the backs of small businesses, America will thrive once again.

Support Sheriff Mack today: http://sheriffmackforcongress.com/donate

You and I know that our country faces many critical problems. And we also know that Washington is the problem, not the solution.

That’s why I believe it’s time to send a law-man to Congress.

Enough is enough with career politicians whose doors are closed to you and me, but are wide open to whatever special interests want to grease their palms.

Changing the culture of spending starts by getting entrenched incumbents like Lamar Smith out of office, and into new jobs in the private sector.

How’s that for some job creation?

Please show your support today and make the most generous contribution you can afford to my campaign.

With your help, this battle is ours to be won.

America is at a crossroads.

Our country is broke. The economic recession is lumbering on. And now, we face constant threats to our civil liberties.

Make no mistake – this election year, our freedom is at stake.

That is why I am seeking the Republican nomination from Texas’s 21st Congressional district.

While most candidates like to make dozens of promises in order to get elected, I make only one: I promise to uphold the Constitution of the United States.

We live in a time when the answer from those in Washington is to spend more, tax more, and give us more big government.

That’s why I believe it’s never been more critical to elect representatives who understand and respect the intent of our founding documents.

Support Sheriff Mack today: http://sheriffmackforcongress.com/donate/

With the Constitution as our guide, the solution to our problems is obvious.

It starts by cutting spending.

Confidence in our elected officials is at an all-time low because they continue to spend money we don’t have.

Washington does not have a revenue problem; it has a spending addiction.

Too often, our representatives are more interested in doing the bidding for special interests than they are in balancing the budget.

Support Sheriff Mack today: http://sheriffmackforcongress.com/donate/

In many ways, Lamar Smith is a symbol of the broken ways of Washington.

My opponent is a 13-term incumbent who has grown more comfortable with inside-the-beltway culture than he is with the needs of everyday citizens.

How else can we explain his support of censorship and the universally maligned Stop Online Privacy Act (SOPA)?

It’s no wonder that so many activists continue to rally to my side.

They know, as you do, that I will be a unwavering defender of our constitutionally protected rights to bear arms, due process, and say what we think.

Over the coming weeks, I will continue to make my case to voters about why I am the best candidate to represent this important district.

That’s why I ask you – one of my most dedicated backers – for your support.

Please make the most generous contribution you can afford today to my campaign.

This race will be hard-fought, but so was every battle ever worth fighting.

In Liberty,

Some excellent coverage of the campaign on the tech-news site CNET

Rep. Lamar Smith could pay a steep political price for authoring two bills, the Stop Online Piracy Act and an online surveillance measure, that have become loathed by millions of Internet users.

He’s facing an unexpected primary challenge from an ex-lawman who believes Smith has little regard for the U.S. Constitution–and who plans to use those bills as a lever to pry his opponent out of a congressional seat he’s occupied since 1987.

Richard Mack, an Arizona sheriff who retired to Fredericksburg, Texas, is a self-described “constitutional conservative” with a long history of supporting causes close to the hearts of Republican primary voters, including states’ rights, individual rights, and Second Amendment rights.

Because Smith heads the House committee charged with writing copyright law, he’s become Hollywood’s favorite congressional Republican.
